Day 13 - Body Combat Training Day One

DAY THIRTEEN

  • Breakfast: Berries + almonds + cinnamon
  • Workout: Body Combat Training (2 workouts worth)
  • Snacks: Banana + Purple Sweet Potato
  • Lunch: Curried Quinoa
  • Snack: Berries
  • Dinner: Green Juice + Red Pepper Sweet Potato Bisque with some quinoa & Taro

Recap

Energy level was high with anticipation of a workout day, and it stayed high throughout the day. I drank Mineralize Water through the training day, and actually didn't finish my packed lunch and berries. I packed too much food actually, I was afraid that I didn't have enough energy. I didn't know what to expect in the training. It turned out all right.

Sweet potato was a great pre and post workout snack. It's been proven for the past 2 weeks now. This time I didn't forget to bring the Ultimate Reset supplement (I still forgot to bring spoons though...). The day was filled with lecture and exercises. Of course each exercise the trainer gave us we went all out. The first workout was a "taste" of the whole routine of Body Combat release 55. Change of clothes was in order right after that sweaty session. Yet another and more sweaty sessions ensued. Still, I hang and not slumping. Mainly I think because of the right choice of fuel I packed with me. Not too much sugar (not crashing), enough fiber, carb and protein. I didn't even have caffeine.

Starting the day...

The color of my breakfast is fast resembling the US flag... red and blue on white plate.  I need something new soon.

Training started at 11am and we went to the Masterclass around noon. My meal was rather sporadic. I snack or eat as needed. I still drank my supplements though, the Detox and Alkaline. When I got home at 9pm, I wasn't feeling hungry. Not too exhausted either. Still, I knew my body needed replenishment. Green juice plus a small bowl of Red Pepper bisque with a lice of taro and 2 spoonful of quinoa mixed together, adding Southwestern spices.  Mind you, this meal is a hotchpotch, whatever I have and I like threw in together to fill in my tummy before I called it a day.  It wasn't bad though :)

Good night and on to day 14.... Second day of Body Combat Training!

Day 12 - All Diet No Workout No Bueno

DAY TWELVE

  • Breakfast: Berries with Almonds and Cinnamon
  • Lunch: Strawberry Spinach Salad with Avocado and Tofu
  • Snack: Veggie juice
  • Dinner: Curried Quinoa with Cauliflower and Brussel Sprouts on the side + Red Pepper Sweet Potato Bisque

Recap

I felt sleepy, sluggish and cranky. I attributed that to missing endorphin kick. You see, the same thing happened on day 11, although it was better yesterday because at least I got my workout in the evening. And I noticed that it improved my mood drastically for the remainder of the day. Today, however, I didn't have ANY workout whatsoever. I was trying to practice Body Combat moves for the training, but my brain and body had a different idea - the brain kept telling my body to drag itself to bed and sleep. Energy level was through the floor.

Starting the day...

Woke up feeling a little tired. breakfast started to feel monotonous. When will those kiwis ripen....

Lunch was better. Strawberry salad was yum! Here's a new thing I started doing to spinach in my salad: I slice them coarsely. Why? Let's just put it this way. It makes eating salad looks more civilized. I already use chopstick as it is. As for dressing, this salad didn't really need any thanks to ripe avocado and tofu, and fresh ground lemon black pepper.I took it a little further by roasting the cauliflower with garlic.

No workout means no extra calories burned. I didn't feel hungry at all. But I decided some green juice was in order, since I was feeling like either beating up somebody or comatose in the couch.

After that I started fiddling with dinner. I tried Southwestern spices, now decided I should do Thai Curry with quiona. Result was satisfying.  Another keeper. If you think I'm taking a shortcut with all these spices blends, well I am. Who got time and money these days to buy all different spices and blend them to the right amount?  Anyway, protein was mushroom and tofu, with sides of garlic sauted cauliflower and brussel sprouts. Oh and a small bowl of the Red Pepper Sweet Potato Bisque (still have leftover).

Since I still got crankier by the minute, Andy tucked me in early for the night.

On to day 13... Body Combat training weekend!!

Day 11 - No Morning Workout Equals to Afternoon Energy Slump

DAY ELEVEN

  • Breakfast: Fruits + Almonds & Cinnamon
  • Lunch: Miso Veggie Soup over Taro
  • Snack: Shakeology Choco Vegan + Coconut & Pineapple
  • Workout: Insanity (30 min class) + Body Combat (1 hour)
  • Post Workout Snack: Sweet Potato
  • Dinner: Miso Veggie soup over Taro

Recap

No morning workout made me feel sluggish pretty much the whole day. Until I got my workout in the evening. It was hard to start the class for Insanity, but once I got going, wow. It was like a release. Rushing off to the Body Combat class after that. Energy level was still high on the second workout. It was intense and exhilarating. I was beat tired at night though.

Starting the day...

... with mix fruits and almond slices as expected. Boring, yah I know. I fleetingly wished I could have Greek yogurt with it or granola.

I wanted to make use of the miso paste. I like the flavor of this paste, not over powering and not too salty. Adding in some soy milk to the base soup lends to a bit of a heavier consistency. I basically dumped every kind of veggie I have in the fridge. A bit of this and bit of that. I love colorful soup, it's pretty and different texture of the veggie makes it more interesting to eat. Mushrooms and tofu are definitely in as protein source.  I'm happy with the result. This recipe is a keeper.

Energy low alert. I was sore and tired in the morning from yesterday's workout, but no exercise in the morning really killed my mood. And I was really feeling sluggish and sleepy. I needed a pick me up real bad before I teach the class at 6:30p.

The Shakeology Chocolate helped a little, but what perked me up was the actual workout. The first jumping jack was tough. My legs felt like logs. 5 minutes later, tough, I was free! I feel my energy level went back up. Even though I had planned to lower the intensity during Body Combat, I ended up going all out. Sweet potato and banana, sharing it with Andy, hold me up until dinner time.

Dinner was the same. The beauty of cooking extra, you don't have to labor again before your meal especially when you are dead tired like me that night. Enjoying the remaining of the Miso Veggie soup before hitting the sack.

Overview

Ultimate Reset is a gentle detox program that gradually cleanse the digestive system and promotes healthier and more balance body.  There are supplements to be taken during the program to help your body reset itself. The meals play an important role as these are what ultimately cleanse the system not just during the program, but in the long run.

Planning the Meals

My grocery list is simple. I refrained from having too many meal varieties during the program. I choose recipes with similar ingredients that can be used in all three weeks. This saves me time grocery shopping and saves money.

Be creative. You might have a family recipe that can be tailored to fit the detox guideline. Cooking food that's already familiar makes meal time more comforting.

Be adventurous. For the next 21 days you will be developing a new habit, so might as well try something new. But limit it to 1 or 2 recipes. And again, using mostly ingredients already in your list.

In a glance, you can keep the list as simple as the pictures on the right. I actually have several more items in the Pantry that are not included in the pictures (I ran out when taking those photos :p ). For more details and variety, scroll down more for the List.

The List

I divided my grocery list into three:
  • Pantry Must-Have
  • Main List
  • Week One

Pantry Must-Have are items I use over and over again in preparing the meals. This includes spices, oils and basic ingredients.

Main List consists of ingredients used in cooking from week one to three. This is the go-to list each time I shop - same type of vegetables and fruits. Keep in mind, the items listed here are the ones I used in cooking my meal. You can choose your own.

Week One is a very short list. Mainly non-vegetable protein source and grains. Keep the list short and don't overstock. You won't need these after week one.

The idea behind the lists is to be smart - planning what to cook/buy in order not to waste material and money.

For example, grains have long shelf live and can be stored even after you don't need it after week 1 or 2.  So think of oatmeal or brown rice. Bread on the other hand, only last for so long before it goes stale (unless there are others who would eat it in your household).

Vegetables and fruits, well, you buy them as needed. These should have been in your normal grocery list to begin with :)

You'll notice that I don't even have brown rice in the list. Omitting rice is no problem for me as I normally don't eat rice.  Instead, I replaced grains option with quinoa, which can be part of the meal throughout the program. This makes my list 1 item less.

Ok, enough talk. Here's the list.

Pantry must-have

  1. Sliced Almonds - raw or dry, toasted
  2. Miso Paste - no MSG, organic
  3. Himalayan Salt (the pink salt)
  4. Lemon Pepper Shaker
  5. Garlic (always have fresh ones ready minced in a small container. Prep food 101)
  6. Onion (I pre-sliced/diced my onions. Prep food 101)
  7. Coconut/Olive Oil Spray
  8. Spice blends - premix spices or other herbs

 Main List

  1. Quinoa
  2. Fruits: Kiwi & Berries - or any in season
  3. Kale/Spinach - or any dark leafy vegetable
  4. Broccoli or Cauliflower - choose one for each week
  5. Celery - great for snack as well as for cooking
  6. Cilantro - for adding flavor on top of the dish
  7. Zucchini
  8. Carrots or Beets - some sweetness in your palate
  9. Tomato
  10. Mushroom - protein source
  11. Tofu or Tempeh - protein source
  12. Red Bell Pepper
  13. Sweet Potato - mashed, sliced and steamed. I love this stuff!
  14. Black Bean - get low sodium kind and rinse it well. Or get the dried beans and prepare to soak it in water for a long time then boil.
  15. Shakeology Vegan

Additional List for Week 1

  1. Greek Yogurt - A small tub should be enough
  2. Eggs
  3. Whole Wheat Bread or Oatmeal
  4. Rotisserie Chicken - skinned and de-boned. Prep food 101.

Again, these are my lists based on the food choices I made. Yours could be different. However the idea remains the same. Keep the list short and keep it simple.

Day 10 - Soupy Day - Ultimate Reset Vegetarian Week

DAY TEN

  • Breakfast: Fruits
  • Workout: Teaching Turbo Kick (1 hour)
  • Snack: Almonds
  • Lunch: Mushroom Soup
  • Snack: Vegetable Juice & Fruits
  • Workout: Body Combat (50 min)
  • Snack: Fruits & Almonds
  • Dinner: Red Pepper Sweet Potato Bisque
  • Snack: Fruits

Recap

Vegetarian week on Beachbody Ultimate Reset continues strong. Good deals on strawberries saved my breakfast dilemma. I planned to do two workouts today and they were awesome. Energy level good. I didn't feel depleted or too exhausted. Body weight was stable after losing 5 pounds, body fat still the same, but noticeably trimmer hips, legs and abs. Definitely abs! Vegetable juice once again floats my day and energy level. No quinoa today.

Starting the day...

A little trip to the grocery store to pick up fruits, was fruitful. Scored 79 cents for a box of ripe strawberries and got breakfast for the week taken care of. Fruits with almond slices and cinnamon for breakfast before teaching Turbo Kick in the morning.  I didn't bring any post workout snack with me other than drinking the Mineralize water then popped in a couple of almonds before rushing to shower.

Lunch for two was finishing the leftover mushroom soup. Andy is not on the detox with me, so for his bowl I added shredded rotisserie chicken.

Drats! I forget to boil the sweet potato... Pre workout was raspberries and blackberries plus vegetable juice I made this morning, and for post workout I had half a small banana, more berries and almonds while Andy got his "Hello Panda" chocolate cookie munchies.

Finally, dinner time! The recipe I had been waiting to try, Roasted Red Pepper Sweet Potato Bisque. I'm more of a textural person, so adding to the recipe was garlic pan roasted cauliflower, roasted red pepper and black beans. I had a small piece of purple sweet potato with the soup and was really full! Soupy stuff does that to me.

I could feel my body begging for rest, so time to zzz and onto day 11...
